ALGIERS, — Eighteen terrorists have been killed and four others arrested so far in an ongoing launched by the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) on June 8 in Rouakeche in Medea Province, located some 80 kilometres south of the capital, Algiers.

The Ministry of National Defence said in a statement here Monday that the operation had also led to the recovery of 20 Kalachnikov machine pistols, two Simonov semi-automatic rifles, one 60 mm caliber mortar with ten shells, one 12.7 mm caliber machine gun, one shotgun, four shells for RPG-2, a large quantity of ammunition of different calibers, 23 chargers for ammunition, 20 grenades, 3 explosive belts, detonation tools, 7 binoculars and 23 mobile phones.

In addition, a number of arms caches and bunkers had been discovered and destroyed, the ministry added.

Six terrorists who killed on June 19 had been identified, the statement said.

The operations conducted by the Army “reflects the strict respect of the instructions and the orientations of the Higher Command, which continuously recalls the need to spend more efforts and be permanently vigilance to root up the phenomenon of terrorism”, it added.
