AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO DISCUSS LOCUST CONTROL MEETING IN ALGIERS
ALGIERS, — The seconnd meeting of ministers in charge of locust control of African countries which are members of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) will be held in Algiers on Oct 25.
The Algerian Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing said in a statement here Wednesday that the meeting, which it was organizing jointly with the CLCPRO, would be of major importance for the durability of the preventive control strategy in the region because it is the second time that it is being organized in a period of lull of locusts.
The meeting will also see the participation of representatives from several countries, notably Burkina Faso, Libya, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Chad and Tunisia.
It will be preceded on Monday, Oct 24, by a preparatory meeting of experts on locust control from the member States of CLCPRO, which was established in 2012 with main aim of co-ordinating locust control efforts of affected countries.
