ALGERIA CATCHES ITS FULL QUOTA OF ATLANTIC BLUFIN TUNA
ALGIERS, — Algeria has caught its full annual quota of bluefin tuna at at 450 tonnes by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing said in a statemwent here over the weekend that the 11 Algerian tuna fishing vessels authorized to participate in the 2016 Atlantic tuna fishing season, from May 26 to June 24, caught the full quota allocated by the ICCAT to Algeria for the current year.
In addition to the royalties from the fishing season, totalling 11.75 million dnars (about 106,000 US dollars), foreign currency revenue from bluefin tuna exports will amount to nearly 5.0 million USD, added the Ministry.
“The positive results will strengthen Algeria’s position within the ICCAT and allow it to regain its quota,” said the Ministry.
