ALGERIA, CHINA SET UP JOINT COMMITTEE FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF EL HAMDANIA PORT
ALGIERS — Algerian Public Works and Transport Minister BoudjemAa Talai and the Chinese Vice-Minister of Commerce, Qian Keming, have agreed on the setting up of a joint committee to examine and follow-up the financing and construction of El Hamdania Port in Tipaza, about 70 kilometres west of here.
They reached agreement on the matter during a meeting Monday between delegations of the two sides at the Ministry here. Several joint projects were broached in the field of public works as well as ways to develop them, notably the project relating to the construction of El Hamdania Port.
The two sides agreed on the setting up of a joint committee to follow up on the development of the port. The committee will comprise representatives from Algeria’s Ministries of Public Works and Transport; Finance; and Foreign Affairs as well as officials from the port company, on the Algerian side.
It also comprises representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, a Chinese bank in charge of financing the project as well as officials from the Chinese Embassy in Algiers.
The committee will also be responsible for the elaboration of a roadmap for the construction and follow-up works at the technical, financial and management levels after the completion of the project.
