ALGERIA, FINLAND SIGN MOU ON CO-OPERATION IN PHYTO-SANITARY SECTOR
ALGIERS, --Algeria and Finland have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to co-operate in the phytosanitary field, including plant protection and quarantine.
The MoU was signed here Sunday by Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing Abdesslam Chelghoum and his Finnland's Agriculture Minister, Kimmo Tiilikainen, who is leading a delegation of businessmen for a three-day visit to Algeria.
The delegation comprises Finnish executives from various sectors, including clean energy, timber, wastewater treatment, cereals, animal feed and agricultural machines.
The MoU will enable the two sides to monitor the import and export operations of plant products, Chelghoum told the media after the signing ceremony.
The Finnish minister said his country hoped the MoU would mark the beginning of further co-operation between our two countries in other areas.
During the discussions which preceded the signing of the MoU, the two ministers underlined the need to strengthen economic and trade co-operation between the two countries
"Our two countries agree on the need to boost co-operation in the fields of agriculture, fishing and forestry," said Chelghoum. "We hope Finnish companies will become more involved in investment projects in Algeria."
He highlighted the Algerian government's policy for the diversification of economy, including the promotion of agricultural exports.
