ALGERIA RECORDS HIGHER INFLATION RATE OF 4.9 PCT IN MAY
ALGIERS, — Algeria recorded an annual inflation rate of 4.9 [er cern in May this year, a slight increase from the 4.8 per cent reported in April and 4.7 per cent in March, according to the National Office of Statistics (ONS).
The ONS announced here Wednesday that the higher year-on-year inflation rate in May 2016 reflected the increase in the consumer price index (CPI) between June 2015 and May 2016 compared with the period between June 2014 and June 2015.
As for the annual variation of consumer prices, there was an increase of 7.0 per cent in May 2016 compared with May 2015.
As for the monthly rate of change, the CPI in May 2016 increased by 0.07 per cent compared with April 2016 after rising by 1.0 per cent in April and 1.9 per cent in March 2016.
This monthly change resulted from a 0.4 per cent increase in food products, with an increase of nearly 1.0 per cent for processed food products and a drop of 0.3 per cent for fresh agricultural products.
