ALGERIA SEES DROP IN TEMPERATURES

ALGIERS, Temperatures across Algeria, which has been in the grip of a heat wave, are expected to drop in the next few days, says Houaria Benrekta, a weather forecaster at the National Meteorological Office (ONM).

The flow of cool air from the east will blow away the heat wave which has persisted across the country for several weeks, especially in the furnace-like south, where temperatures will return to “normal” of between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius from Friday, Benrekta told APS here Thursday.

Seasonal thunderstorms are expected to hit the country’s extreme south, the Hoggar and Tassili, she added.

Temperatures are also expected to vary between 30 degrees and 38 degrees Celsius in inland regions, she said, adding that thundery showers will hit Tebessa and the Aures.

In coastal regions near the Mediterranean coast in northern Algeria, temperatures will vary between 26 dgrees and 34 degrees beginning Friday.
