ALGIERS, –An international symposium on “Algeria’s contribution to decolonization in Africa” will be held here on Tuesday and Wednesday with the participation of distinguished national and African personalities, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The symposium, organized by the Ministry in co-ordination with the Ministry of Mujahideen (Liberation War veterans) under the patronage of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, will bring together “distinguished national and African personalities as well as renowned academics”.

The Ministry said in a statement here Sunday that it would provide an opportunity for participants to underline the “special relationships linking Algeria with other African countries and which drew their substance from the joint struggles against colonial rule and the apartheid regime.

The meeting will be also an opportunity to re-affirm the international community’s commitment to the principle of people’s right to self-determination, in accordance with international law.

“African peoples have resolutely moved towards building together a future of peace, progress and prosperity in an international environment marked by deep imbalances,” added the statement.

The symposium coincides with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in their struggle for their inalienable right to establish an independent state with al-Quds as its capital, the statement added.
