ALGERIA TO INTRODUCE BIOMETRIC DRIVING LICENCES, ELECTRONIC VEHICLE REGISTRATION CARDS SOON
ALGIERS, April 17 (NNN-APS) — Algeria will begin issuing biometric driving licences and electronic vehicle registration cards soon following the completion of their design, says Minister of the Interior and Local Authorities, Nouredine Bedoui.
Speaking when he inaugurated the secure documents production unit at the official printing facility here Sunday, he added that this operation followed the production of four million biometric identity cards since January 2016.
Those projects are part of the government’s programme to modernize the public service under the guidelines spelt out by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, he said, adding that the head of State was closely following the progress of the projects.
President Bouteflika “is eager to deepen the process of the public service modernization and development as he wants a strong and modern Algeria, free of the weight of bureaucracy, corruption and nepotism, and faithful to its principles and the sacrifices of its people, Bedoui said.
Detailing the advantages of the new driving licences and vehicle rtegistration cards, the minister said the new driving licence, equipped with a developed system, is totally safe and will ensure a rigorous legal follow-up of the users in the new approach of prevention of road accidents. — NNN-APS
