ALGIERS, — Algeria and the United Nations have expressed their determination to develop an exchange programme for co-operation in vocational training and education, in line with guidelines worked out by UN agencies in Algeria.

Algeria’s Ministry of Professional Training and Education said in a statement here Monday that the two sides would implement the project as part of the UN programme relating to the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

This came about during a meeting here between Minister of Professional Training and Education Mohamed Mebarki and Costa Amaral Ana Cristina, the Resident Co-ordinator of the UN system and the United National Development Programme (UNDP) Representative in Algeria.

During the meeting, the minister presented the main features of the Algerian professional training and education system, in terms of both quality and quantity. He emphasized the main features of the sector’s action plan for the period 2015-2019 and outlined the department’s guidelines in relation to the national strategy for human development.

The strategy provides for support to priority vocational training courses paving the way for Algeria’s economic diversification.
