ALGIERS, — Algerian Minister of Energy Noureddine Boutarfa, who is in Istanbul to attend the 23rd World Energy Congress, has held talks here with officials of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Boutarfa, who arrived in Istanbul Sunday, was also received Wednesday by Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, with whom he discussed developments in the global oil market, the Ministry of Energy said in a statement here.
The minister also met Venezuelan Oil Minister Eulogio del Pino, OPEC President Mohammad Saleh Al Sada as well as the OPEC Secretary-General Mohamed Sanusi Barkindo.
Their discussions focused on an examination of the oil market after the agreement reached at the OPEC extraordinary meeting, held on Sept 28 in Algiers, and the market’s prospects, according to the statement.
An informal meeting involving some OPEC countries and non-member Russia was also held Wednesday on the sidelines of the Global Energy Forum so as to reach agreement between OPEC and non-OPEC oil-producing countries on moves likely to stabilize oil markets.
