ALGERIAN ENERGY MINISTER TO ATTEND MEETING OF GAS EXPORTING NATIONS IN DOHA
ALGIERS, — Algerian Energy Minister Noureddine Boutarfa will take part in the 18th ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) to be held in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday.
The Energy Ministry said in a statement here Wednesday that the GECF member countries would mainly be examining the grouping’s long-term strategy, the development of gas and oil markets as well as organic issues.
The forum, which is an international governmental organization, brings together 12 member countries — Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela — and five observer countries — Norway, the Netherlands, Oman, Kazakhstan and Peru.
The previous ministerial meeting, held in November 2015 in Tehran, had focused on the issues of the sovereignty of member States regarding their gas resources, the strengthening of co-operation and co-ordination policies among member States, as well as the role of natural gas as a clean energy resource in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
