ALGERIAN FINANCE MINISTER TO ATTEND IDB GOVERNORS MEETING IN JAKARTA
ALGIERS, — Algerian Finance Minister Abderrahmane Benkhalfa will participate in the 41st session of the Council of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) taking place in Jakarta this week, the Finance Ministry says.
As part of the session to be held from Tuesday to Thursday, the Algerian finance minister will also attend the annual meetings of IDP subsidiaries — the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), the Islamic Development Solidarity Fund (ISFD), the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) and the International Islamic Finance Company of Commerce (ITFC).
Benkhalfa will speak on behalf of the Arab countries group and chair the 16th annual meeting of the High Council of the al Quds and al Aqsa funds, chaired by Algeria since 2005.
Meetings at this 41st IDB session “are held in a particular context marked by the mobilization of substitutive and complementary resources to hydrocarbons,” according to the statement.
In this context, the IDB members should meet development challenges while facing difficulties despite progress recorded in the fight against unemployment and support to growth, it said.
The minister will also meet the President of the IDB and senior officials of financial institutions attending these meetings, in addition to some of his counterparts from other Islamic ocuntries.
The Jakarta meeting will also be an opportunity for players in the economic and financial sector in IDB member countries to discuss the current international economic and financial situation, particularly difficulties which the economies of these countries are facing.
