BAMAKO, — Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Ramtane Lamamra has arrived in Bamako for a two-day visit to Mali to co-chair with his Malian counterpart, Abdoulaye Diop, the 11th session of Algerian-Malian Strategic Committee on Northern Mali.
Lamamra was welcomed upon arrival at the Bamako Sinou international airport by Minister of Malians Abroad Abderamane Sylla and leaders of politico-military movements of Northern Mali.
The Algerian-Malian session Monday coincides with the first anniversary of the signing of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, stemming from the mediation conducted under the Algiers Process.
In a media statement issued following discussions with the representative of the Co-ordination of Azawad Movements (CMA), Bilal Ag Cherif, in Algiers on Saturday, Lamamra said that “the first anniversary of the signing of Mali Peace and Reconciliation Agreement will mark a new beginning in the same constructive spirit for the achievement of all peace and reconciliation requirements”.
The Algerian Foreign Minister will also meet with members of the Agreement Monitoring Committee, chaired by Algeria, to assess the progress made in the implementation of the peace agreement and to identify means to accelerate the process.
During his visit to Bamako, Lamamra will be received by top Malian officials, with whom he will examine co-operation between the two countries, in the light of the guidelines of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
