ALGERIAN FM LEAVES FOR KIGALI TO ATTEND PREPARATORY MEETINGS FOR AU SUMMIT
KIGALI, — Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Ramtane Lamamra has arrived in Kigali to attend the ministerial preparatory meetings for the 27th Ordinary Summit of of the African Union (AUG) taking place here this week.
Lamamra will lead Algeria’s delegation to the 29th ordinary session of the Executive Council (July 13 to 15 July), which will be devoted to the different strategic issues on the agenda for the AU Summit to be held on July 17 and 18.
High on the agenda are peace and security issues in Africa, in addition to financing of the AU, as well as the election of a new Chairperson of the AU Commission and its various commissioners, for which Algeria has presented the candidacy of Ambassador Smail Chergui for the position of Peace and Security Commissioner.
Lamamra will chair the meeting of the ministerial committee in charge of Agenda 2063, the AU’s 50-year blueprint for Africa’s development, and will hold discussions with many of his African counterparts.
