ALGERIAN GOVT ORDERS EVACUATON OF CITIZENS FROM GABON
ALGIERS, --The government of Algeria ordered the evacuation of its citizens from a major oil region in Gabon, due to the escalation of post-election violence in that central-western African country, local television reported on Saturday.
The Algerians linked to the oil field in Port-Gentil, Gabon's second largest city, were evacuated along with their families, according to a communique from the Foreign Ministry.
Algeria is closely following the situation in Libreville and its embassy is in permanent contact with the Algerian community in Gabon due to the situation in that country after Wednesday's announcement of the controversial election of outgoing President Ali Bongo in the presidential election held on Sunday, August 28, the statement added.
