Bensalah, Zulkifli Hasan discuss Algeria-Indonesian relations

ALGIERS, — The Speaker of the upper house of the Algerian Parliament, the Council of the Nation, Abdelkader Bensalah, has held talks here with the visiting Chairman of Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly, that country’s parliament, Zulkifli Hasan.

Their discussions, which focused on bilateral relations and means for promoting them, had enabled the two sides “to examine the means for heightening relations to the level of the historical, political and religious relations between the two countries”, according to a Council of the Nation statement issued after Tuesday’s meeting.

Bensalah said the two visits paid by the Algerian President to Indonesia had helped to establish the platform to raise bilateral cooperation to the desired level, and he expressed the wish that bilateral relations would not be limited to trade as there were ample opportunities for co-operation in other industrial and economic sectors such as energy and mining.

Bensalah also affirmed the determination of the Algerian Parliament to support the bilateral efforts in this field.”

Zulkifli hoped that his visit to Algeria would help strengthen relations between the two governments and the two parliaments.

The two sides also expressed their readiness to co-ordinate their positions at the international level to defend just causes such as the Palestinian cause.
