HASSI-MESSAOUD, -- Algerian national hydrocarbons company Sonatrach plans a 30 per cent increase in its oil and gas production by 2020, says Minister of Energy Nouredine Bouterfa.
This target is part of the government's strategy to face the new trends of the international energy market, the minister said during a working visit to Hassi-Messaoud in Ouargla Province, about 800 kilometres west of Algiers, on Monday.
"Efforts are being made to reach this goal within the prescribed time," he stressed.
During the visit here, Bouterfa visited the oil deposit at Ourhoud, to the east of Hassi-Messaoud in the Berkine Basin.
A company was set up on July 1, 1997 by Sonatrach in association with foreign partners namely Cepsa, Anadarko, ENI, Maersk, ConocoPhillips and Talisman to develop the oil field which has an estimated one billion barrels of oil.
