ALGERIAN OLYMPIC TEAM DEPARTS FOR RIO

ALGIERS, -- a 100-STRONG Algerian conringent has left for Brazil to participate in the 2016 Olympic Games to be held from Aug 5 ro 21 in Rio de Janeiro.

The Algerian team, who left here Wednesday aboard a special flight to Rio, included 47 of the athletes representing gymnastics, fencing, sailing, weightlifting, athletics and football.

Other Algerian athletes who have qualified for the Olympics 2016 are still in training camp abroad, and will join the delegation in Rio later.

Minister of Youth and Sports El Hadi Ould Ali and the Chairman of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee Mustapha Berraf were at Houari-Boumediene International Airport to wish the team well as they left for Rio.

Earlier Wednesday, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal visited the Algerian athletes at the National Technical Centre of Sidi Moussa, Algiers and conveyed to them President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's message of encouragement.
