ALGERIAN PRESIDENT CALLS FOR ENDING EXCESSIVE DEPENDENCE ON HYDROCARBONS
ALGIERS, April 17 (NNN-APS) — Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has called for an endto the country’s excessive dependence on hydrocarbons, even if they constitute a blessing for the country.
In a message to mark the Day of Knowledge (Yaoum El Ilm), celebrated annually on April 16, read on his behalf here Sunday by Presidential Adviser Mohamed Ali Boughazi, he said: “We will very much benefit by implementing the reformist vision of our prominent Sheikh Abdelhamid Ben Badis, who helped our ancestors to free Algeria, to harness all the goodwill in a view to ending the excessive dependency on hydrocarbons, even if they constitute a blessing for our country.”
Stressing that Algeria is experiencing a difficult financial situation caused by the decline of oil prices, the head of the State urged the Algerian people to “ensure on a daily basis that the social relationships are addressed and improved, since the development unavoidably implies high stakes and challenges”.
“Let us make of this Knowledge Day celebration a new departure point for the achievement of our reforms in the fields of economy, governance and the management of our county’s affairs,” the president concluded. — NNN-APS
