ROME, — Algeria’s national hydrocarbon company, Sonatrach, and Italy’s ENI have signed several cooperation agreements in various energy areas as part of the strengthening of the historic partnership between the two companies.

Sonatrach says in a statement that the agreements would strengthen the long-term relationship between the two companies in upstream sector as well as in downstream activities such as marketing of natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The co-operation covers exploration of other fields of activities in Algeria and abroad, including the development of renewable energies, refining, petrochemicals and research and development.

The agreements were signed in Rome last week by Sonatrach chief executive officer Amine Mazouzi and ENI Executive Director Claudio Descalzi.

Mazouzi was quoted in the statement as saying that for Sonatrach, the agreements re-affirmed its willingness to strengthen the existing partnership with ENI to contribute to the company’s development strategy.
