HIDES OF ANIMALS SLAUNGHTERED FOR EID AL-ADHA FESTIVAL IN ALGERIA TO BE GIVEN TO TANNERIES

ALGIERS, The Algerian Ministry of Industry and Mines has announced that skins of animals slaughtered for the upcoming Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) holidays will be collected following the celebrations and given to tanneries.

The Ministryu said in a statement here Monday that the skins of the animals sacrificed will be given to tanneries with a view to boosting the leather industry which has high export potential.

The ministry said it hoped to collect up to 800,000 skins this year when more than four million sheep, cattle and goats are expected to be sacrificed during Eid al-Adha.

Algiers, Oran, Constantine, Jijel, Setif and Batna have been selected as provinces under this pilot campaign, which will be expanded to the rest of the country from next year.
