KENYAN FM SEEKING ALGERIA’S SUPPORT FOR HER CANDIDACY FOR AU COMMISSION CHAIR
ALGIERS, — Kenyan Cabinet Secretary (Minister) for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amina Mohamed ha held talks here Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Ramtane Lamamra to seek Algeria’s support for her candidacy to become the next chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission.
In a media statement issued after her meeting with Lamamra Thursday, Amina Mohamed stated that her visit to Algeria accompanying Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto was aimed at discussing the chairmanship of the AU Commission and the election of new AU Commissioners, in addition to setting-up of the commission’s executive structures.
In addition, she also broached with her Algerian counterpart many bilateral and regional issues, particularly “Algeria’s efforts to bring peace and stability in the region”.
Kenya, she added, was playing a similar role in supporting neighbouring countries in East Africa restore peace and stability and achieve progress in dialogue and reconciliation.
