ALGIERS, — The Governor of the Bank of Algeria, Mohamed Loukal, has officially taken office Thursday as the new head of the country’s central bank, succeeding former governor Mohamed Laksaci.

The Bank of Algeria said in a statement here Thursday that prior to becoming governor of the Bank of Algeria, Loukal was the chief executive officer of Banque Exterieur d’Algérie (BEA).

The management, running and the monitoring of the Bank of Algeria are respectively ensured by the Governor, the Board of Directors, chaired by the Governor, and by two censors.

The Board of Directors includes the central bank’s three deputy governors and three senior officials designated for their knowledge in economy and finance.
