RESPECT HUMAN RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS, ALGERIAN POLICE CHIEF TELLS HIS MEN

ALGIERS, -- The Director-General of the Algerian National Police (DGSN), Major-General Abdelghani Hamel, has stressed the importance of the police showing respect for human rights and freedoms when fulfilling their missions, a DGSN statement says.

"We cannot restore security without respect for human rights. Policemen must fulfil their missions with devotion to the country," Hamel said at a meeting with security forces held at the police training centre in Kouba in Algiers Tuesday.

He highlighted the need for further efforts to ensure the protection of citizens and their property through determination in the fight against criminals.

"The renown which the Algerian police enjoys regionally, nationally and internationally is the result of the great interest shown by the country's high authorities, particularly President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who has always supported the national police so that it remains in tune with developments, in addition to major efforts spent by security forces and their devotion in the fulfillment of their mission," Hamel added.
