ALGERIA KEEN TO DEVELOP MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL COOPERATION WITH NIGERIA: FM

ALGIERS, Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel said that his country is desired to develop “fruitful, diversified and mutually beneficial cooperation with Nigeria.”

Speaking at the 4th Algerian-Nigerian High Joint Commission held in Algiers, Messahel assured the will that drives the two countries to develop cooperation “must result in the implementation of concrete projects based on our potentialities and complementarities.”

Messahel noted that the joint commission, which he co-chaired with his Nigerian counterpart Geoffrey Onyeama, “constitutes an essential stage in the establishment of renewed and fruitful cooperation.”

He further specified that he is convinced that during this session, “several cooperation agreements will be signed in a bid to intensify the legal framework governing our bilateral cooperation.”

Messahel recalled the “major projects” currently under development between the two nations, notably the trans-Saharan highway linking Algiers to Lagos, the construction of the trans-Saharan gas pipeline and the establishment of fiber optic cable.

Onyeama arrived in Algiers Sunday for a two-day working visit on top of wide a delegation of officials and businessmen.

During his stay in Algiers, Onyeama will hold talks with senior Algerian officials.
