ALGIERS, An Algerian parliamentary delegation, made up of members of both houses of Parliament, is in Egypt to participate in a Regional Seminar on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Gender Equality, beginning on Tuesday.

The three-day seminar is jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), in Alexandria, the Council of the Nation, the upper house of the Algerian parliament, said in a statement here Monday.

Many issues are on the meeting’s agenda, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role of parliaments in their implementation, the participation of Arab parliaments in the achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), effective governance and gender equality as crucial factors in meeting the SDGs.

The participants will discuss the full and effective involvement of women in political and public life and equal opportunities allowing them to play their role as leader at all levels of decision-making.

he regional event will also address parliamentary strategies to support legal reforms to achieve gender equality and put an end to violence against women and girls, the statement said.
