ALGERIAN TELECOMS MINISTER IN NAIROTBI FOR 5TH ATU CONFERENCE

ALGIERS, Algerian Post, Telecommunications, Technology and Digital Minister Houda-Imane Faraoun is participating in the 5th African Telecommunication Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries which opened Thursday in Nairobi, Kenya.

During the meeting, ATU member countries will examine the ATU draft strategic plan for 2019-2022 and discuss joint African proposals to be submitted to the International Telecommunication Union Conference of Plenipotentiaries to take place in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Oct 29 to Nov 16, 2018, the Ministry said in a statement here.

The Nairobi conference will also see the election of a new ATU secretary-general for a four-year term, as well as the members of the governing body for the same period, said the statement.

The ATU is a specialized agency of the African Union which provides a forum for co-operation among stakeholders in the sector of NICTs and for the development of policies and strategies aiming at improving access to information infrastructures and services.

It also defends the interests of member states at global decision-making conferences.
