A demonstration organized by the “National Federation of Trade Unions and Employees in Lebanon” set out from the Cola area, towards Riad El-Solh Square in downtown Beirut, to join the demonstration of the Communist Party on the occasion of Labor Day, with the participation of a number of Spanish trade unionists and foreign workers, especially from Africa. The demonstration was preceded by a word by the President of the Union, Castro Abdallah, in which he criticized “Lebanon’s submission by its government and authority to the International Monetary Fund and its dictates,” considering that “Lebanon is a plundered and stolen country and not bankrupt,” calling on all forces, labor unions, and public administration employees to “unify their word and position to escalate the pace of confrontation against the government and reaching a declaration of comprehensive civil disobedience in all of Lebanon.”
