Paris, The Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of Qatar to UNESCO and the Social and Human Sciences Sector of UNESCO, organized a seminar on the contribution of the award.
This seminar, held at UNESCO headquarters, was aimed at strengthening the partnership agreement signed between UNESCO and the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding in December 2023. The agreement focuses on three main areas: translation and publishing, enhancing the Arabic language for social cohesion, and highlighting the role of artificial intelligence in translation and related ethical and professional issues.
The first phase of this partnership will involve translating UNESCO publications related to the Silk Road into Arabic. The Silk Roads Programme for Social and Human Sciences is a valuable tool for understanding how cultures and societies interact and enrich each other.
The seminar began with a speech by Dr. Nasser Al Hanzab, wh
o is Qatar’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, emphasizing Qatar’s pioneering role in promoting tolerance and dialogue among nations. He also spoke about the importance of translation in achieving sustainable development in countries and encouraged all attendees to support the Arabic language through its use and related programs and initiatives.
