Kosovo, Serbia Reach Agreement to Normalize Relations

Kosovo and Serbia have reached an agreement on implementing a European Union-backed deal to normalize ties, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said.

The agreement on Saturday came after 12-hour closed-door talks between Serbian President Alexandre Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti in the North Macedonian town of Ohrid, in the presence of Borrell and the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak.

Following the discussion, Vucic told reporters that an agreement had been reached on “some points” to implement the deal, which both sides had agreed to in Brussels last month.

Borrell said that after 12 hours of negotiations, Kosovo and Serbia had agreed on practical ways to implement the European Union’s reconciliation plan.

Borrell noted that the two sides had reaffirmed their full commitment to respect all the provisions of the deal.

Last month, both sides hammered out an EU-backed 11-point plan to normalize relations.
