MALI INVITES ALGERIA;S SONATRACH TO RESUME OIL, GAS EXPLORATION IN THE COUNTRY

ORAN, Mali’s Minister of Mines and Oil, Tiemoko Sangare, has invited the Algerian national oil and ghas corporation, Sonatrach, to resume oil and gas exploration in his country.

The Minister, who is here to attend the 11th Sonatrach Scientific and Technical Conference, said Wednesday he had conveyed this message to Algerian Energy Minister Mustapha Guitouni and Sonatrach Chief Executive Officer Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour when he met them earlier.

Sonatrach has an agreement with Mali which affirms that its decision to suspend exploration activities in that neighbouring country was because of reasons related to the financial crisis triggered by the collapse in oil prices in 2015.

The Minister said he was here with a large delegation from Mali to attend the conference and exhibition in order to relaunch the bilateral co-operation in the hydrocarbons sector.

He called on Sonatrach to invest in Mali and to make the first oil drilling and prepare the ground for oil production in his country.
