Munich – Morocco’s energy strategy was highlighted in Munich on Saturday by Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali.
“Morocco has undeniable assets in terms of renewable energies, with capacity factors that are among the best in the world”, said Benali, who was speaking at a panel on “The decarbonization dilemma: Developing equitable and peaceful transitions in the countries of the South”, held as part of the 60th Munich Security Conference.
The Kingdom was the first country to sign a green partnership with the European Union, the government official recalled, noting that the country “has everything it takes to forge credible partnerships”.
Indeed, Morocco has some fifteen years’ experience in the development of renewable projects, which are important for the energy transition, and also long experience in the mining sector, which today has become an important sector for critical metals, she noted.

rgy efficiency and regional integration, she explained, underlining that Morocco is today perceived as “a model that has achieved a great deal of success in its energy transition”.
According to the Minister, it is necessary to redefine a new generation of partnerships, in order to make a success of the energy transition and meet the various challenges of climate change.
”The national energy strategy, launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2009, underlines Morocco’s determination to maintain a stable energy strategy”, said Benali, adding that the aim is to continue the energy trajectory adopted by Morocco to drastically and steadily reduce energy costs for citizens and the national economic fabric.
