Tangier: International Drug Trafficking Operation Foiled, 890 kg of Chira Seized

The Tangier judicial police foiled, on Monday, an international drug trafficking operation and seized 890 kilograms of chira, according to a security source.

The seizure of this additional cargo follows the arrest, last Saturday, by policemen at the Tangier-Med port security zone, of a Spanish national caught in the act of attempting to traffic 1,050 kg of chira aboard a commercial vehicle, during an operation carried out on the basis of precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, the same source said.

The inquiries and investigations carried out in this case have made it possible to locate the packaging and storage sites of the drugs inside a house and two garages located in the rural area of “Khemis Anjra”, reported the same source, noting that the searches carried out led to the seizure of 20 additional packets of chira weighing a total of 890 kilograms.

The search of the premises also led to the seizure of important logistical equipment, including eight cars, a quad bike and a jet ski, as well as five hunting cartridges and a set of false car license plates.

The Tangier judicial police is pursuing the necessary inquiries and investigations under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to detect any ramifications of this criminal activity at national and international level, and to arrest any accomplices involved in these acts, it added.
