Toshiba to Cut Jobs, Lower Spending by 2015

Tokyo, September 18 (QNA) – Toshiba will cut 900 jobs in Japan and worldwide by March 2015 as part of a restructuring plan, the company said Thursday.

The number represents more than 20% of the company’s computer business headcount if the manufacturing sector is excluded, Toshiba added in its statement today.

The company said it would cut fixed costs by more than $185 million compared to the previous financial year that ended in March. The aim of the plan is to focus on certain consumer markets.

Toshiba has been negatively affected by the rise in popularity of smartphones and computer tablets. (QNA)
