Public investment in the Moroccan construction sector increased by 56% in 2024 compared to 2023, to reach 64 billion dirhams, Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, said Thursday in Rabat.

Speaking at an information day on the forecast programs for construction markets in 2024, which was attended by Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, and Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, the minister pointed out that “this meeting is held in a year where the construction sector should experience a significant recovery thanks to an increased public investment and the implementation of structuring programs”.

In this context, Baraka recalled that these structuring programs include in particular the reconstruction and rehabilitation program of the areas affected by Al Haouz earthquake which, in implementation of the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, will benefit from the reconstruction and rehabilitation of their infrastructure, b
ut also from an ambitious development program through structural projects worth 120 billion dirhams, which will be implemented over a period of five years.

The minister also noted that Morocco is preparing to host large-scale events, notably the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which ‘presents a crucial opportunity for transition towards integral development of the Kingdom, as desired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him.’

The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), under the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested, on Thursday, a 24-year-old supporter of the “Daesh” terrorist organization for his alleged involvement in the preparation of a terrorist project aimed at undermining public order.

According to preliminary investigations, the individual, who was active in the city of Salé, pledged allegiance to the terrorist organization “Daesh” and expressed interest in acquiring expertise in the manufacture of explosives because of “fatwas” inciting to perpetrate terrorist acts, said a BCIJ statement.

In parallel with his terrorist project, the suspect established contacts with “Daesh” intermediaries with a view to joining one of this organization’s branches in the Sahel-Saharan region, added the same source.

He was placed in police custody at to complete the judicial investigation conducted by the BCIJ under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office in charge of terrorism cases, in ord
er to shed light on all the extremist activities of which he is accused, and identify any links he may have with various terrorist organizations, the statement concluded.

Chad’s Prime Minister, Succès Masra, has commended, in Washington, the Initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI aimed at promoting access of the Sahel States to the Atlantic Ocean, deeming it ‘very relevant’.

Speaking during a round table held by the U.S think tank The Atlantic Council, Succès Masra, who is on an official visit to the United States, stressed that Morocco ‘showed the way towards South-South cooperation’.

‘There are lessons that sub-Saharan countries can learn from Morocco,’ he said in response to a question on the Royal Initiative, asked by the director of the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center, Rama Yade.

?Noting that he plans to visit Morocco soon, Masra emphasized the need for Chad to continue to cultivate partnerships that serve the integration and development of Africa.

During this meeting held in the presence of Morocco’s ambassador to Washington, Youssef Amrani and the U.S Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee, Chad’s Premier cited a concrete example of innova
tive actions for the continent’s development, mainly the Noor Solar Power Plant in Ouarzazate.

He said he was familiar with this major project when he previously served at the African Development Bank.

This meeting also took place in the presence of several officials from the U.S administration.

At least 100 Palestinians were martyred and hundred others were injured in a massacre committed by Israeli occupation forces in al-Rashid Street against civilians waiting for aid in Nabulsi roundabout west of Gaza.

‘Thousands of Palestinians gathered in Al-Rashid Street waiting for trucks that carrying aid, where they were targeted by shells and bullets by occupation tanks, causing at least 100 martyrs and about a thousand injuries’, Palestinian media reported.

Survivors of the massacre confirmed that the occupation tanks directly targeted them with shells and bullets as they approached the trucks carrying aid, while others were subjected to sniping while carrying bags of flour mixed with their blood.

The number of victims of Israel’s ongoing aggression for the 146 day on stricken Gaza exceeded 30 thousand martyrs after today’s Nablus roundabout massacre.

The two sides stressed the depth of the distinguished historical relations binding the two brotherly countries and peoples and the necessity of building on them to enhance cooperation and open new horizons for it in a number of vital sectors, especially in light of the state of instability witnessed in the region and the world and the difficulties facing the global economy.

Arnous reviewed Syrian government’s efforts to revitalize the economic sector, especially the priority sectors that affect the standard of living of citizens.

He also touched upon the economic, industrial and agricultural components that Syria possesses, broad investment opportunities and a skilled workforce, considering that there are many common points from which the two sides can start to activate joint work, including management, governance and the transfer of expertise on both sides in several sectors.

Ambassador al-Shehhi voiced his aspiration
to enhance bilateral cooperation and develop historical relations for the benefit of the two brotherly countries, pointing to the possibilities of cooperation in the fields of environment, climate, water and other fields that serve the common interest of the two states.
