The Japan Meteorological Agency said the epicenter of the quake was 10 kilometers deep in the Kanagawa region, south of Tokyo.

No reports of human or material damage have been reported so far as a result of the quake.

A strong earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck earlier today off the coast of Miyazaki Prefecture and other areas in southwestern Japan, prompting the Japanese government to issue strong tremor warnings to residents of Tokyo and the regions of Kanagawa, Saitama, Yamanashi and Shizuoka, with the possibility of a major earthquake measuring 8 or more.
