5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tonga Islands

An earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Tuesday the Tonga Islands.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said that the quake occurred 276 km from the Ohonua area on the island, at a depth of 10 km.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake so far.

Located in the South Pacific Ocean, Tonga is an archipelago of 176 scattered islands in the South Pacific Ocean, of which only 52 are inhabited.
