A government and UN delegation visits Barqa town to discuss its urgent needs and support its vital projects

Nablus – Ma’an – The head and members of the Burqa Town Council, in addition to a number of village dignitaries and representatives of local institutions, received today, Wednesday, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Arab Funds Affairs, Minister Nasser Qatami, and His Excellency the Head of the Wall and Settlement Authority, Minister Mu’ayyad Shaaban, along with a delegation from the United Nations Program.

The attendees welcomed the visiting delegation, expressing their deep appreciation for their great interest in addressing the needs of citizens and their successive visits to inspect the needs of citizens and local authorities in rural areas on the front lines.

At the beginning of the meeting, after a welcoming speech by the council chairman, the council’s needs were discussed, focusing on the importance of the project to build a new school. The attendees explained the urgent need to build internal roads and a fire station. This came in light of the ongoing threats from settlers who target the town and bur
n homes and facilities. They stated that the Civil Defense has allocated a fire truck as a temporary and urgent measure until the fire station is established in the area.

The meeting also included a phone call from Prime Minister Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, who expressed his absolute support for the people of Barqa, stressing that their steadfastness is a motivation for the government to stand firm and confront the occupation’s policies, and he gave his directives to cover all needs according to available resources.

In turn, Minister Nasser Qatami praised the steadfastness of the people of Barqa, pointing out that the will to live will prevail over the occupation. He stressed that, based on his country’s directives, the school’s funding is ready and will be subject to final approval in coordination with the Ministry of Education.

The UNDP delegation also expressed its readiness to support the fire station, and stressed that their new strategy aims to serve the Palestinian countryside more efficiently and enhance
cooperation and integrated work with the Arab funds as a strategic partner and a priority of the Palestinian government. They added that successive visits to the villages contribute to the optimal management of resources.
