AL-RAHI REFUSES TO LINK ELECTION OF PRESIDENT TO STOPPING WAR ON GAZA

Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai announced that a mosaic of Saint Charbel will be displayed in Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican next Friday morning.

Patriarch Al-Rahi’s words came during his sermon at Sunday mass in Bkerke.

The Patriarch pointed out: ‘We wonder where Lebanon stands today, and those with influence from every parliamentary bloc and parties and those with personal and suspicious goals are determined to amputate the head of state, by obstructing the election of this president,’ explaining that the Church cannot accept the absence of the Maronite Christian head of state.

Al-Rahi stressed that ‘it is not acceptable to link the election of the president to stopping the war on Gaza,’ noting that there has been much talk about international action aimed at demarcating the borders, even though these borders are drawn and established, amid the absence of a president and a government that does not have full powers.

In this context, he called for “the implementation of international
resolutions related to the south,” warning against making any amendments to the borders in light of the presidential vacuum.
