ALGERIA CONDEMNS TERRORIST ATTACK IN BURKINA FASO

ALGIERS, Algeria has condemned the terrorist attack on a gendarmerie patrol in the eastern part of Burkina Faso on Saturday.

“We condemn the bloody terrorist attack, which targeted a gendarmerie patrol in the east of Burkina Faso, on Saturday, 11 August 2018, killing six gendarmes,” the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelaziz Benali Cherif, told APS.

“We offer our condolences and express our sympathy and solidarity with their families as well as the government and the people of Burkina Faso,” he added.

“We remain convinced that the savagery and brutality of terrorists would further strengthen the determination of this sister country and all African countries to continue to combat this scourge until its complete eradication.”

Benali Cherif also said Algeria had expressed its sincere condolences to the Italian government and people following the partial collapse of a motorway viaduct near Genoa, Italy, calling the tragedy “distressing”.

“The partial collapse of a motorway viaduct near Genoa, in the northwest of Italy, is a distressing tragedy that has bereaved many families to whom we offer our sincere condolences,” Benali Cherif added. “We assure the Italian government and people of our sympathy and solidarity.”

The death toll of the incident has risen to 30, the Italian Minister of the Interior, Matteo Salvini, said.
