ALGERIAN ENERGY MINISTER WELCOMES QUALITY OF DIALOGUE AMONG OAPEC MEMBERS

ALGIERS, Algerian Energy Minister Mustapha Guitouni has welcomed the quality of dialogue and exchanges among members of the Organization of Arab Oil Exporting Countries(OAPEC).

Speaking at the opening of the 11th Arab Energy Congress, organized by the OAPEC in Marrakesh on Monday, he added that this was thanks to the holding of meetings such as the congress, according toa statement issued by the Energy Ministry here.

Held under the theme, Energy and Arab Co-operation, the congress is taking place from Monday to Thursday. Guitouni said the congress had become a major event at the regional and international levels and had become an exceptional space for dialogue, consultations, exchange of ideas and experiences and an opportunity to examine the new co-operation opportunities among Arab countries.

Guitouni gave a broad overview of the achievements of the Algerian energy sector as well as investment opportunities in Algeria, by underlining the exploration efforts which allowed the country to make an average of 25 hydrocarbon discoveries per year over the last ten years.

He also pointed out that Algeria produced about 150 million tonnes of oil equivalent per year, and that it had four liquefied natural gas (LNG) complexes with a capacity to produce 56 million cubic metres of LNG per year.

Algeria also has six oil refineries with a total capacity of more than 30 million of tonnes per year and which will be boosted in the medium term to reach a total of 50 million tonnes per year.
