Barham and Japanese Ambassador discuss several issues related to education

Ramallah-Ma’an- Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Amjad Barham discussed in his office in Ramallah with the Japanese Ambassador to Palestine Yonichi Nakashima and his accompanying delegation a number of issues related to the education sector in Palestine.

Barham stressed the importance of strengthening mutual relations between the Palestinian and Japanese peoples, pointing to the major role played by the Japanese government in developing Palestinian education.

Barham presented to the ambassador an explanation of the development plan that the ministry seeks to adopt, especially what is related to enhancing literacy and teaching science and mathematics, drawing inspiration from all that is related to technological development and its applications in the teaching and learning process, and enhancing scientific research among students at all educational levels.

He noted that the Ministry’s strategic plan will include inputs to achieve the desired outcomes according to a three-year approach to impro
ve the quality of education, focusing on the student, teacher and curricula.

The Minister pointed out the importance of restoring hope to Gaza students who lost their right to life and education as a result of the occupation’s extensive aggression on schools and universities.

Barham praised the projects provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the benefit of the Palestinians, stressing their importance in strengthening relations between the two peoples, expressing his hope to provide more areas of support, specifically for building schools and digitization.

For his part, Ambassador Nakashima valued the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s cooperation with Japan in various fields, stressing his country’s government’s determination to continue working with Palestine to develop the Palestinian education sector, pointing to the pivotal and important role played by UNRWA in supporting and improving the quality of education, stressing the need to support it to complete its work,
especially in the Gaza Strip.

For his part, a representative of JICA gave a presentation on the projects implemented by the agency in Palestine, as well as future projects.
