Barham discusses with the “Taawon” Foundation ways to support higher education in Gaza

Ramallah – Ma’an – Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Amjad Barham discussed in his office today with the Director General of the Welfare Association in Palestine Dr. Tariq Imtairah ways to support university students in the Gaza Strip, by adopting practical mechanisms in coordination with their universities in light of the ongoing aggression that has disrupted the educational process and destroyed universities.

Barham stressed that the issue of university education in Gaza was the subject of discussion with the presidents of the universities there through his many meetings with them in person and remotely, expressing his hope that the cooperation programs would constitute a tributary of the tributaries of strengthening the resilience of those universities, and would allow them to recover from the effects of the aggression, indicating that the ministry would spare no effort to discuss any creative ideas to help the universities through its continuous dialogues with its international partners and
international institutions.

The Minister also reviewed the urgent emergency needs to resume the educational process in the Gaza Strip once the aggression ends, which has deprived nearly 850,000 students and children of their right to education in universities, schools and kindergartens.

For his part, Imtairah reviewed the orientations of the Welfare Association and its keenness to invest in the available opportunities and its partnerships in order to enable the university and school education sectors in Palestine to recover, especially in light of the emerging challenges that did not only begin with the current circumstances, noting that the Association is in the process of conducting an in-depth discussion with all institutions to develop qualitative programs that intersect with the desired development priorities.

The meeting discussed the possibility of directing special programs to reactivate cooperation in the field of strengthening the student loan fund, and providing educational grants, specifically
for students in the Gaza Strip. It was also agreed to organize a meeting soon between the Ministry, the Cooperation, and some heads of Gaza universities to complete the launch of practical steps regarding what was discussed.
