Ben Gvir stirs controversy: I will build a synagogue in Al-Aqsa Mosque

Jerusalem – Ma’an – National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said on Monday in an interview with Israeli radio that he will build a synagogue in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

According to him, “the policy allows us to pray in Al-Aqsa Mosque” and that there is “equal law between the Jewish and Muslim sides.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office quickly issued a clarification, saying, “There is no change in the status quo at Al-Aqsa.”

Ben Gvir’s talk about establishing a synagogue in Al-Aqsa sparked a storm and was attacked by all political factions, including elements in the Israeli government coalition.

The first to respond to Minister Ben Gvir was Israeli Interior Minister Moshe Arbel. He said, ‘Prime Minister Netanyahu must act immediately to replace Mr. Ben Gvir.’

He added, “His irresponsible words put at stake Israel’s strategic alliances with Islamic countries, which form an alliance in the war against Iran, and his lack of wisdom may cost him blood.”
