House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Thursday met with Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, at Ain al-Tineh, accompanied by EU Ambassador to Lebanon, Sandra De Waele, and Berri’s media advisor, Ali Hamdan.

Discussions reportedly focused on the regional situation, particularly in light of Israel’s ongoing aggression against Gaza and Lebanon, and its security and political implications for Middle East stability.

Berri expressed his “deep appreciation” for Borrell’s humanitarian stance, noting his “commitment to truth and justice concerning the Israeli assault on Gaza and Lebanon, which has continued for almost a year.”

‘Lebanon does not seek war, but it has the right and the ability to defend itself,’ Berri added.

Addressing Borrell directly, Berri also noted, “You witnessed firsthand Israel’s arrogance and hostility during your visit to UNIFIL forces in Naqoura, southern Lebanon.”

On domestic politics, Berri affirmed that the government was functioning within its constitutional powe
rs, particularly amid the presidential vacuum.

“We are working seriously to resolve this issue, as demonstrated by the initiative we launched over a year ago,” Berri concluded.
