BOU HABIB AFTER MEETING IRAN’S FM: I STRESSED LEBANON’S REJECTION OF WAR

Caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib met Monday with Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and an accompanying delegation.

In a joint press conference following the meeting, Bou Habib commended his guest’s “keenness on continuing periodic consultations with us over the regional affairs and international developments, in addition to the ties between the two countries.

“I stressed Lebanon’s position rejecting war,” he said. “I explained the Lebanese vision on finding durable solutions that restore calm and stability to south Lebanon through a comprehensive basket the guarantees the full implementation of UN Resolution 1701,” he added.

“We also discussed the situation in Gaza,” he said. “We had convergent viewpoints regarding the dangers of the continuity of war on Gaza and the ongoing crimes against the Palestinians, which undermines the chances of just and comprehensive peace in the region,” he continued.

Bagherin Kani, for his part, said that the aim of his visit is to express gratitude
for the Lebanese people and government for their condolences and sympathy after the death of Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi and foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Renewing his country’s support for Lebanon’s stability, security, safety and progress, the Iranian official stressed the importance of the Resistance in the region.

He also revealed an agreement over an initiative to call for an emergency meeting for the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
