BOU HABIB: SECURITY OF SOUTHERN LEBANON DEPENDS ON FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF 1701, LEBANESE ARMY’S SUPPORT & LATER ON CONCLUSION OF A FINAL AGREEMENT ON THE SOUTHERN BORDER

Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdallah Bou Habib, stressed in an exclusive interview with “The “Monitor” website during his visit to Washington, ‘the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region in light of the escalating tension in southern Lebanon and the Middle East.’

He emphasized “the necessity of dialogue and calm,” noting that “the security of southern Lebanon depends on the full and comprehensive implementation of UN Resolution #1701, the support of the Lebanese army, and later on concluding a final agreement on the southern border.”

Regarding recent events, Bou Habib expressed his ‘deep concern about the potential consequences of any future escalation,’ warning that ‘slipping into war will have serious repercussions not only for Lebanon and Israel but also for neighboring countries.’

He added, “The Israeli invasion of Lebanon, if it occurs, may cause a regional war involving external parties.” Therefore, he stressed “the need for all parties to prioritize dial
ogue and peaceful solutions.”

In this connection, Bou Habib pointed to ‘ongoing international diplomatic efforts, including those led by international partners, which aim to reduce tensions and enhance stability along the southern Lebanese border.’

He underlined “Lebanon’s commitment to initiatives that enhance regional peace and security.”

The Foreign Minister also reaffirmed “Lebanon’s readiness to constructively partake in international efforts aimed at preventing conflict and achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.”
