Rabat – Moroccan-British relations have witnessed an “unprecedented boom” since the signing of the Association Agreement in 2019, stated the UK ambassador in Rabat, Simon Martin.
“In reality, Moroccan-British relations have seen an unprecedented boom, since our two countries signed the association agreement in 2019 after the Brexit”, stressed Martin in an interview published on Wednesday by the Moroccan french-speaking daily “L’opinion”, noting that “bilateral cooperation has, since then and until now, been in constant dynamic as evidenced by the meteoric growth in trade that has abounded”.
Trade between Morocco and the UK has experienced an impressive increase of nearly 50% between 2019 and 2022, with Moroccan exports nearly tripling since the agreement came into effect, he pointed out. The ambassador also highlighted the shared commitment of both governments to elevate this cooperation to a multidimensional level.
Since the UK parted company from the European Union, it recognizes the promising potential of the Moroccan market, considering it as one of the most attractive in Africa, said Martin. The positive impact of the 2019 association agreement is already being felt, the ambassador added, affirming that trade between Morocco and the UK has surged from 15.3 billion dirhams in 2019 to MAD 22.9 billion in 2022.
