Casablanca: Drug Trafficking Attempt Thwarted, Over 4.7 Tons of Chira Seized

Elements of the Casablanca Prefectural Judicial Police Service succeeded on Friday, on the basis of precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, in thwarting a drug trafficking attempt and seizing 4 tonnes and 756 kg of cannabis resin locally known as ‘chira’.

A press release from the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) said that police officers had intercepted a commercial vehicle suspected of trafficking large quantities of drugs in the Lissasfa region of Casablanca, adding that the vehicle in question was subjected to a search which led to the seizure of 4 tonnes and 756 kg of chira, in the form of 102 plates destined for international trafficking.

According to preliminary inquiries and investigations, the seized car bore a falsified number plate, the same source pointed out, adding that falsified number plates and others registered abroad were seized from the vehicle.

The driver of the car, aged 30 and wanted nationwide, was taken into custody for investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with a view to determining the possible ramifications of this criminal activity and apprehending all those involved in the case, the press release concluded.
